Pontianak State Polytechnic Visits Universities in Japan

Management of Pontianak State Polytechnic constantly endeavors to realize Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep) as a world-class university and achieve its global vision. One of them is to promote international partnership with leading foreign universities. Previously, Polnep had already in collaboration with universities in France and United Kingdom for 2 years. At the end of 2016, Polnep had a chance to cooperate with two universities in Japan; Kyoto and Ehime.

On this occasion, Polnep was represented by Deputy Director IV, Hj. Utin Nina Hermina, SE., M.Si., and International Office Coordinator, Muhammad Ali, S.Pd., M.EIL., to meet officials from those two universities to talk about collaboration. The first place to be visited was Kyoto University where they also conducted study monitoring on one of Polnep’s lecturers, Dewi Dimyati, from Marine Science and Fisheries Department, who was in the middle of her doctoral study. Polnep’s delegates had a meeting with Prof. Dr. Eng. Tomoharu Hori, the Head of Water Resource Research Center, a body which is actually under Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), the place where Dewi Dimyati is conducting her research. In the meeting, both parties talked about possibilities of doing collaboration between two institutions, Polnep and Kyoto University, in the form of MoU and also about the progress done by Dewi Dimyati. Following the meeting, Polnep delegates were invited to have a small tour around that Japanese university.

The second place to be visited was Ehime University which is located in the city of Matsuyama. Polnep delegates met Prof.Dr.Masatoshi Sugimori, Dean of Agriculture Faculty, and Prof. Dr. Takuya Sugahara, Special Aides for the President of Ehime University. They talked about several partnership possibilities between Polnep and Ehime University, starting from student and lecturer exchange program, joint research, seminar, to international workshop. One key requirement to be considered here, in Japan, MoU signing is possible until two institutions have conducted several joint activities. At the end of the meeting, an agreement was made that Prof. Sugimori would come to Polnep on 17 December 2016 for a workshop on Food Function. This would be the first joint-activity between Polnep and Ehime University.
