Pontianak State Polytechnic Considers A Collaboration with Ehime University

Pontianak State Polytechnic and Ehime University, Japan are considering a collaboration starting from organizing a workshop on food function which held at Directorate’s Meeting Room on Monday, 19 December 2016. The workshop featured Prof. Takuya Sugahara, Ph.D., a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and the Special Aide to the President of Ehime University.

In his welcoming speech, director of Polnep, Ir. H. M. Toasin Asha, M.Si., mentioned that there was a key point regarding future collaboration between Polnep and Ehime University. “We hope our collaboration is not only a signed piece of paper,” he affirmed. He highly hoped that it could be implemented through student and lecture exchange program, similar to what Polnep organized with Universite de Valenciennes, France.

On the occasion, Deputy Director IV, Utin Nina Hermina, SE., M.Si., explained that the workshop was an initial effort before Polnep and Ehime to sign an MoU. “Prior to an MoU signing with a Japanese university, it must be started with initial joint activities and this workshop is our very first initial joint project,” she confirmed. Furthermore, this future collaboration with Ehime is an effort to accommodate Polnep’s departments of Agriculture and Fisheries while others are already covered in MoU with a French university. “Let’s hope that an MoU will be signed in 2017 between Polnep and Ehime University,” she said.

Ehime University is well known for its agriculture and fisheries departments which is really strategic to promote development in Polnep. “However, we will be very honored if we are given opportunities to collaborate in other fields such as engineering, yet, our current focus are these two departments,” M. Ali, Polnep’s Coordinator of International Office, revealed. He further mentioned about established collaboration made by Ehime with other Indonesian universities, such as Gajah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, and Agriculture Office of West Java.

Polnep seeks to do partnership in organizing 2/3 month student exchange program with Ehime University. “Moreover, we also work on a recommendation for our lecturers to continue their doctoral study there. It is essential to support our 2020 vision,” he concluded.
