Teaching and Learning System

The study program has teaching and learning system as follows:

  1. The program lasts in six semeters (3 years).
  2. It has 60% practical work and 40% theoritical lessons.
  3. Using dual system that integrates  lessons delivery in classrooms, laboratories and workshops with field work practice in order to apply the knowledge given in the real world.

The Program was opened in 2007 and its operational permit is based on decree No. 2134/DIKTI/KEP/2008 dated 11 July 2008.

By 2020, it will become vocational education provider of Diploma IV in Housing & Settlement Planning Engineering which is able to produce skillful and intelligent professionals who have positive work attitude to be able to compete at regional, national and international level.

Purposes

The graduates of Diploma IV Program in Housing & Settlement Planning Engineering have technical abilities as planners of both settlement and housing & building structures. Therefore, they have to:

  1. Thoroughly master surveying technique.
  2. Master construction management technique properly.
  3. Master cost estimation technique.
  4. Master the teachnique of manual and computerized drawings.
  5. Have ability in precisely calculating the housing and building structure.
  6. Be skilful in planning settlement area by adopting the existing construction regulations. 
  7. Be able to appropriately use softwares associated with housing and settlement.

  1. The program lasts in eight semester (4 years).
  2. It has 60% practical work and 40% theoritical lessons.
  3. Using dual system that integrates  lessons delivery in classrooms, laboratories and workshops with field work practice in order to apply the knowledge given in the real world.

The program is established in collaboration with PT. United Tractor, Tbk Pontianak branch office. The purpose of opening the Diploma I program is to produce graduates who have skills in operating and maintaining heavy equipments to answer job market’s demand. The enormous demand is in line with the increase of the number of heavy equipments used in supporting the growth of palm oil plantation in West Kalimantan.

Curriculum

The program is completed in 1 year (2 semesters) covering 14 subjects with 40 credits plus OJT (On Job Training) for 3 months. The OJT is conducted in industries that use heavy equipment.

The program which is diploma III vocational education is completed in six semesters or three years, covering 112 credits. The students are compulsorily required to take industrial internship in semester five and complete final project at the end of the program. This study program is concerned with the creation of skillful human resources in mechanical engineering, especially in machine production and maintenance. The program has two concentrations:

  1. Concentration of Production
  2. Concentration of Repair and Maintenance

Research Programs

As  the implementation of tri dharma perguruan tinggi ( three missions of higher education), in research field, the academic staff of the department of mechanical engineering have carried out  research both in teaching grant and research grant. The research is focused on the fields related to mechanical engineering disciplines such as energy conservation and production which have direct and beneficial impact to the institution and the society. Therefore, every research program is, in part or whole, accompanied by community service activity.

This study program was established in 1983 with its Diploma II which was subsequently upgraded into Diploma III in 1998. The program was opened to support the fulfillment of demands of skilful workers in electrical field at mid- level to support agriculture, fisheries, forestry, trading, engineering and service of electrical energy. Until 2004, this program has produced more than 500 alumni who are hired by private companies and governmental agencies in either local or national scope.   

Purpose

  1. Creating graduates with a great technical competences and high personality.
  2. Producing applied research to support regional development in the field of agriculture and marine industries based on the Pattern of Scientific Principles (PIP) of Politeknkk Negeri Pontianak.

Educational System

The educational system used in the program is vocational education which adopts Competency-based Curriculum (KBK). The composition of the lessons in each semester is 43% theoretical lesson and 57% practical works. The teaching and learning process lasts for 38 hours per week with total meetings of 20 weeks per semester.

Graduate competences

During the program, the students are trained to master the knowledge and skills in electrical field, such as:

  1. Electrical installations (lighting and power installation)
  2. Maintenance and repair of electrical machinery
  3. Industrial control and automation systems

The program is established in 2005 with its diploma III program. In order to increase the students’ competence and to take an active part in the fulfillment of skilful and competitive manpower, the program has adopted competency-based curriculum which is in line with the industry’s need.

Purpose

  1. Operating & maintaining control systems and instrumentation system of industrial reparation, testing and maintaining electronic appliances.
  2. Designing microcontroller-based digital control systems and microprocessors.
  3. Designing microcontroller-based factory automation systems, Microprocessor and PLC (Programmable Logic Control).
  4. Designing simple applications.
  5. Designing computer system and network for both the hardware and software.

Educational System

The composition of the lessons in each semester is 44% theoretical lesson and 56% practical works. There is a 38-hour meeting each week and extra-curricular activities organized by students association.  The course is designed to develop students’ competences in designing and performing maintenance & repair of analog digital & microprocessor –based electronic appliances, and in skillfully creating computer-based program for Industrial instrumentation control.

This program was established in 2009 as a diploma III program. It was opened with a consideration that education is one of the solutions required in creating skillful and competent human resources who also have appropriate behavior. Therefore, this program consistently seeks to create professional and competent human resources in information and communication technology with competence standard outlined by Indonesian National Working competency Standard (SKKNI) requiring Telemetric Certification, KKPI, JENI and/or CNAP (optional).  

Purpose

  1. Creating competent human resources in the field of Information Technology in accordance with national and international standards of competence.
  2. Creating capable human resources in designing, developin, and implementing Information Systems.
  3. Creating skilful human resources in the processing and administration of the Operating System that is implemented either stand alone or within a computer network LAN, MAN and WAN, including processing computer system and network security as the Network Administrator.

Educational System

The composition of the lessons in each semester is 40% theoretical lesson and 60% practical works. There is a 38-hour meeting each week and extra-curricular activities organized by students association.

Based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education of Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 025/BAN-PT/Ak-XI/Dpl-III/XII/2011, Accounting Department has been accredited with B Grade. It is a Diploma III education having 110 credits allocated in six semesters.

The department of Agricultural Technology is a diploma III program which has total credits of 120 to be completed in 6 semesters. This department also organizes training programs such as tubers-based processing technology, palm oil-based processing technology, coconut-based processing technology, rubber-based processing technology, fruit and vegetable chip processing technology, coffee-based processing technology, and essential oil extraction, production of instant products, renewable energy, proximate acid, water treatment, water analysis, waste utilization and microbiology test.

  2. Assistance and advisory for fish farmer groups in cooperation with the Maritime Affairs and Fishery Office (DKP) of Pontianak, Landak and Ketapang regencies.

Brief History

The program which was established in academic year 2003/ 2004 is an integral part of Department of Fisheries and marines Science. It is expected to create professional graduates who have competitive advantages in fish processing industry in local, national and international level.

The program is managed by lecturers graduated from Bogor Agriculture Institute, Brawijaya University in Malang, Hasanudin University in South Sulawesi, and STP Jakarta who have already had expereinces in fish processing industries. The lecturers also have HACCP conception-based certificate of PMMT and and certificate of processing (SPI). The curriculum is designed in accordance with Fishery higher Education curriculum whose educational concept is to create skillful graduates in fisheries. This study program has a specific aim to create scientifically minded Diploma III graduates (AMd.Pi) who have PMMT and SPI certificates, high discipline to be able to actively take a part in developing national fishery.

Vision

By 2020, Fish Processing technology Study Program as the integral part of Polnep will become qualified professional educational insitution in both national and international level. It has comparative advantages in conducting professional education and behavioral and skill research which are easily adabtable to changes, accentuate communication skill, independence & forward-looking and uphold ethics, morality, cultural and humanitarian values to improve public welfare.

Mission

Carrying out professional education and applied research in Fish Processing Technology for the improvement of public welfare in order to support national development, particularly in West Kalimantan region which is in line and commensurate with the society’s need, developing and maintaining dynamic professionalism as well as utilizing science and technology to improve society’s welfare through the extensive utilization of the department’s resources.

Purpose

The purpose of Fish Processing Technology program is to create graduates of midlevel workforces who have national HACCP certification and can be absorbed by the labor market based on skills and competencies that graduates possessed.

Types of Cooperation Offered

The academic staffs at the Department of Agricultural Technology have a range of competencies that can be offered to the stakeholders for various forms of cooperation such as:

  1. Maritime and fishery certification of ANKAPIN- I

All eligible fishers can take ANKAPIN-I certification which is held every year at Fishing Technology Study Program of Politeknik Negeri Pontianak.

  1. Fishing Area Observation

Research institutions and related fishery agencies can make cooperation with the study program in fishing area survey and observation by using training vessel of Fishing Technology Study Program of Politeknik Negeri Pontianak.

  1. Fishing vessel operation

The training vessel owned by the study program is a fishing vessel that can be used for fishing cooperation with other parties.

  1. Fishery education, training and advisory

The academic staffs of Fishing Technology Study Program have a range of competencies and experiences in fishing which make them eligible to be fishery educators and advisors, especially for fishers. The education and training include activities such as the manufacture of fishing equipment and training in the operation of navigation equipment.

  1. Maritime Tourism

The training vessel can be used as a means of transportation to visit the islands that have potential as tourism destination and fishing area.

  1. Consultation and planning of coastal development

In addition to their expertise in fishing and navigation, the academic staffs of Fishing Technology Study Program also have knowledge in the planning of coastal development

 

Brief History

In 1987, Politeknk Negeri Pontianak was established which was followed by the opening of several departments to support the teaching and learning process such as the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering. In its further development, the Department of Civil Engineering had two study programs: Civil Engineering and Architecture Engineering. Subsequently, the department was renamed as the Department of Civil Engineering and Planning.

Architecture engineering program was opened for the first time in 2000 based on decree No 232/DIKTI/KEP/2000 dated 17 July 2007. As an effort to improve its service quality and for the sake of the development of the study program to fulfill the demand of professional, well-trained and job-ready engineers to be used in regional, national and international levels, a new department of Architecture Engineering was opened to accommodate Architecture engineering program based on the director’s decree number 2816/PL16/OT/ 2011 dated 1 November 2011.

By 2020, Architecture engineering Study Program as the integral part of Polnep will become an active and successful educational and applied-research insitution in both national and international level which creates graduates who are competent in carrying out construction and art works, have self confidence and independence, responsible, polite, responsive to changes and uphold ethics, morality, cultural and humanitarian values.

Mission

Carrying out education and architectural research on planning and designing buildings healthily and dynamically by extensively utilizing science, technology & art and other existing sources to support the national development, particularly in West Kalimantan Province to improve public welfare.

Purpose

Creating graduates who are competent in planning and designing buildings with the abilities to plan and design works of architecture, analyze the cost estimation and supervise building construction works.

Graduates Competencies

  1. Theoretical competencies

    1. Having coherent and consistent architectural logic in accordance with the competencies required in architectural education as a basis to a standard level of the architectural profession.

    2. Being able to plan and design low-floor story building (up to 4 floors), both for single building or multimass in the Mezo-scale.

    3. Having ability in expressing the idea in both manual and digital architectural pictures.

    4. Being able to prepare budget plan, make the job offer and work schedule.

    5. Having capability to be architects’ assistants, in professional careers, in designing architectural buildings.

    6. Being skillfully able to do architectural works by using a simple-to medium-level technology.

  2. Manual Drawing Competencies

    1. Being able to use the manual drawing equipment, according to the depth of picture information required.

    2. Being able to organize the architectural information in the image sheet and undergo the process of coherent and continuous designing process as the requirement of working drawings for construction.

    3. Having Capability in expressing the ideas in developing the synthesis of architectural design through free hand skills.

    4. Being skillful in delivering architectural information in accordance with standardization provisions in the field of construction services.

  3. Digital Drawing Competencies

    1. Being able to use digital drawing equipment, according to the depth of picture information required both in two dimensional pictures by using CAD program and three-dimensional images by using 3DMax program and other softwares which are able to deliver architectural information.

    2. Being able to organize the architectural information in the image sheet and undergo the process of coherent and continuous designing process as the requirement of working drawings for construction.

    3. Having capability to transform ideas from hand sketches into digital format, without losing the substance of the ideas, as well as to develop a synthesis of architectural by using the existing digital drawing equipment.

    4. Being skillful in delivering architectural information, particularly in digital format, in accordance with standardization provisions in the field of construction services.

Academic Staff

The department has 25 academic staffs consisting of 21 teaching staffs of Architecture Engineering Program and 4 administrative staffs and technicians. Out of the 21 teaching staffs, 10 people are master graduates, 7 people are in progress of completing master and doctoral degrees and 5 people are bachelor graduates.

Curriculum

Total number of credits in Architectural Studies Program is 115 credits with credits composition of theory and practice courses 46.98%: 53.02% which is in line the decree of National Education Minister Number: 232/U/2000. Curriculum competencies are formulated along with the involvement of stake holders.

The Types of Cooperation Offered

The academic staffs at the Department of Civil Engineering and Planning have a range of competencies that can be offered to the stakeholders for various forms of cooperation such as:

  1. Programming services, such as: planning & designing and the conception of planning & designing.
  2. Schematic design services which include: idea sketches, pre-design image, designing & planning report and Cost estimation report.
  3. Design and Image Development Services which include: Development images, Outline of the Technical Specifications, Pre Budget Plan.
  4. Construction documents which include: auction pictures, Work Plans and requirements,a nd Budget Plan
  5. Performing periodic monitoring in the name of service users in matters related to construction techniques that include providing additional explanation to clarify the intent and definition that have been specified in construction documents, drawings pictures and or make additional terms to make an adjustment to the real work situation when it is necessary, checking and, if necessary, repairing workshop drawings prepared by a contractor or third party.

Research, publication, community service and other results.

Research culture in Architecture Engineering Program has been developed. Many research, either independent or DIKTI and DIPA- funded research, have been conducted. Among the research, some of them have been published in internationally accredited journals and the others are published in academic journal in Politeknik Negeri Pontianak. Community services, which are conducted in group of 3-6 people, also have been done although they are still in a small scale.

To encourage the lecturers to conduct research, do community services, and write in academic journals of Politeknik Negeri Pontianak, they have been required to do the three things above mentioned individually or in group as the promotion requirements.

Students’ extracurricular Activities

In general, students’ extra-curricular activities are led to academic and reasoning activities which include sports such as: football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis and taekwondo, art such as music, interests such as English club, and religious organizations such as Islamic student association (Himsah) and the Christian Student Association. Those activities are organized by the Unit of Student Activities of Politeknik Negeri pontianak.
