Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep) is strengthening its partnership with Politeknik Mukah Sarawak (PMU) through a student exchange program in 2017. 4 students and 2 lecturers of Polnep have been sent to PMU to joint the program for 2 weeks, from 15 – 28 January 2017. The students (from the departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Accounting and Architecture) will sit in the classroom together with PMU students to experience the process of teaching and learning in PMU. Meanwhile the lecturers (from the departments of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering) will teach in PMU’s classrooms as visiting lecturers.
PMU will send its lecturers and students to Polnep for the similar program in April 2017. (MA)
On 19 December 2016, Politeknik Negeri Pontianak (Polnep) organized a workshop on food function for its lecturers and students. This workshop was a collaboration between Polnep dan Ehime Universty which was delivered by Prof. Dr. Takuya Sugahara, a lecturer at Agriculture Faculty of Ehime University and the Special aide to the President of Ehime University. There were two papers presented in the workshop which are related to food function and processing: Immunostimulatory Effect of Jellyfish Collagen and Anti-allergic Function of Microbial-fermented Tea in Ehime, Japan. The participants of the workshop were the lecturers and students from Agricultural Technology and Fisheries & Marin e Science Departments. On 6 December 2016, the vice Director for Cooperation and Partnership of Politeknik Negeri Pontianak, Utin Nina Hermina, and the Head of International Office, Muhammad Ali, Visited Ehime University in Matsuyama, Japan. The delegation met the Dean of Agriculture Faculty, Prof.Dr.Masatoshi Sugimori, and the Special aide to the President of Ehime University, Prof. Dr. Takuya Sugahara. Some possible mutual collaboration between Polnep and Ehime University were discussed in the meeting. Students & staff exchange, joint research and cooperation in organizing international seminars and workshops are some of the activities that can be implemented in collaboration between the two universities. It was also explained in the meeting that in Japan, an MoU only can be signed when it is preceded by a number of cooperative activities between the universities concerned. At the end of the talks, it was con
firmed that Prof. Dr. Takuya Sugahara, who is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, will come to Polnep on December 17 to give a workshop to the Polnep’s staff and students. It will be the first joint activities between Polnep and Ehime University. (MA)
Pontianak State Polytechnic, represented by Vice Director for Cooperation dan Partnership, Utin Nina Hermina and The Head of International Office, Muhammad Ali, visited Kyoto University on 5 December 2016.
The purpose of the visit was to make a return visit to the university which visited Polnep twice in 2015 and to talk about the collaboration between Polnep dan Kyoto University. It was also aimed to visit one of Polnep’s lecturers of Fisheries and Marine Science Department, Dewi Dimyati, who is completing her doctoral degree in this university. The delegation met Prof. Dr. Eng. Tomoharu HORI, the head of Water Resource Research Center, Disaster Prevention Research Institute, in which Dewi Dimyati is doing research for her dissertation. In the meeting the possibility of signing the MoU with Kyoto University, especially with the Disaster Prevention Institute Research Center was discussed. After the meeting, Polnep delegation was taken on a tour to the research center to see around the laboratory and visited the museum of disaster management owned by the institute.(MA)
On 16 September 2016, Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (Poliku) visited Polnep. The delegation which was led by the director, Haji Muhamad Rumzi bin Mamat, came to Polnep to do several activities. An MoU Between the two polytechnic was signed as the main purpose of the visit. The two institutions have a long good relationship and has visited each other which made them agree to bring the relationship into a formal mutual collaboration in the future.
A joint international research seminar between Polnep and Poliku was also held. The lecturers from the two polytechnics present their research papers as a part of effort to disseminate the results of research conducted in each institution. This forum gave an opportunity for the lecturers to exchange information and to learn from each other about the research they have conducted.
The last activity was a Badminton exhibition between Polnep and Poliku. The players from the two polytechnics were engaged in friendly badminton matches.
The Electronic Engineering Department of Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep) will host 1st International conference on Applied Electrical, Electronics and Informatics Engineering (INFERT). The conference whose theme is ‘”The breakthrough in technology for a better future” will be held in 26-27 July 2016 in Mercure Hotel. There will be 4 confirmed keynote speakers for the conference:
- Prof. Taufik, director of Electric Power Institute of California Polytechnic State University, US,
- Dr.Harold S. Ruiz Rondan, Lecturer in Electrical Engineering of University of Leicester, UK,
- Anton Satria Prabuwono, Ph.D, lecturer in Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Rabigh (FCITR) of King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia and
- Dr. Alfeus Sunarso, M.Eng, Senior Lecturer in Pontianak State Polytechnic.

On 19 Mei 2016, Pro vice Chancellor International of Leicester University (LU), Professor Sarah Dixon, and The Director of Strategic Partnerships, Dr. Michael Green, paid a visit to Polnep. It is the first visit of Leicester University to Polnep after an MoU between the institutions was signed in Leicester in October last year.
The delegation of Leicester university was welcomed by the Deputy Director for Partnership, Utin Nina Hermina, the Heads of the Departments and all Doctors in Polnep. They discussed further possible collaborative activities between the tertiary educational institutions. The meeting highlighted several points:
1. LU and Polnep will try to explore the possibilities of double degree and credit earning for Polnep’s students.
2. LU and Polnep will see the possibility for joint supervision for Polnep’s students’ final projects.
3. LU and Polnep will try to make a proposal of joint research for Newton Funding.
4. Polnep will try to send more lecturers to pursues their doctoral degree in LU.
5. LU will try to see the possibilities to send its students to Polnep for internship.
