A Visit from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)

A delegation  from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak made a visit to Polnep today, 25 February 2012.  The delegation which was led by Prof. Dr. Narayanan Kulathuramaiyer was welcomed by the Director of Polnep together with his four deputies, the Head of all Departments and Programs in Polnep, The Representative of Quality Assurance and some doctors in Polnep in an official meeting. Information about programs owned by UNIMAS , especially the postgraduate programs, is shared in the meeting. The meeting also explored the possibility of mutual cooperation between UNIMAS and Polnep.


Institut Francais Indonesia Visited Polnep

On 13 february 2013, Institut Francais of French Embassy came to Politeknik Negeri Pontianak to talk about any possibilities for mutual collaboration between the two institutions. Dr. Betrand de Hartingh, The Cooperation and Cultural Action Counselor of French Embassy, together with Ms. Flora Stienne , The Coordinator of University Cooperation of French Embassy, met the Director of Politeknik Negeri Pontianak, Mahyus, S.Pd,MM, and explained the French Government’s concern on the development of Indonesian’s human resources  through vocational education.

The meeting which was also attended by the Deputy Director I of Politeknik Negeri Pontianak, Ir. Muhammad Toasin Asha, M.Si,  the Deputy Director IV, Utin Nina Hermina, SE, M.Si, The head of Business & Cooperation Unit, Dr. Dedy Herdiansyah,  and the Coordinator of International Office also talked about the possibility of opening Warung Prancis as an information center related to French language, culture and society at Polnep. In relation to this, in March, Institut Francais of French Embassy will send a team to deliver a presentation on studying and living in France and also on the available scholarships for Indonesian students. The institution will also invite Polnep to job fair in May which will be attended by the French corporations, the alumni of French Universities and Indonesian univeristies.


Polnep Signed MoU with Kapi’olani Community College of Hawaii University and Highline Community College

As one of the outcome of  the Community College Faculty and Administrator Program funded by The U.S Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Polnep signed two MoUs with two community colleges hosting the program, Kapi’olani Community College of Hawaii University and Highline Community College, USA. The two parties in the MoUs agree to establish a formal inter-institutional relation which covers faculty, staff and student exchange and collabrative project development. This relationship is expected to be a means of which faculty, staff and students from the two parties may widen their educational horizons and, at the same time, pursue their individual training and professional development goals.


International Office Seminar

On December 11, 2012, a seminar on the roles and functions of International Office was held at Polnep. Acting as the speaker at the seminar was Dr. Farah Diba, S.Hut, M.Si- the director of International Office of Tanjung Pura University to share information on the roles of International Office on the internationalization of higher education. The Seminar which was attended by the heads of the Department and the Study Programs in Polnep was opened by Director of Polnep, mahyus, S.Pd, SE, MM and closed by the Deputy Director III, Rafani Ginting, ST, MT.


Polnep Took a Part in Community College Faculty and Administrator Program of The U.S. Government

Two Academic Staffs of Polnep are chosen as the participants of Community College Faculty and Administrator Program funded by The U.S Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The program which is a four-month exchange program for participants from post-secondary vocational and technical institutions in Indonesia, has sent the two polnep’s staffs to two different community colleges in United States of America, Kapi’loani Community College, Honolulu, Hawaii and Highline Community College in Washington.

During the program, Ms. Tri Wahyu Arini, S.E, M.Si and Ms.Widiatrianti, S. Sos- a lecturer and an administrator of Business Administration Department of Polnep- together with other participants are in engage in various activities including technical skills acquisition , leadership skill development, English language training and experience of U.S. society and culture. Those activities are in line with the key objective of the program that is to introduce participants to the U.S. educational system and provide them a better understanding of U.S. community colleges, their mission and their role in the U.S. economy.

The program which is administered by The American Indonesian Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) will end on 15 December 2012.




AUSTRADE and AMINEF Visited Politeknik Negeri Pontianak

For two consecutive days, Polnep received two visits from two different institutions of two different embassies. On 11 September, AUSTRADE, a division of Australian Embassy, came to explore with Polnep potential areas for collaboration in education. They also delivered a presentation on “Guide to Studying and Living in Australia” delivered by  Ms. Selvia Tanggara , the Education Manager of AUSTRADE. Information on scholarships offered by Australian Goverment was also provided, delivered by the representative of Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) for West Kalimantan Region, Mr. Uray Salam, M.CALL, P.hD.

With the same purpose, Education USA and AMINEF from the United States of America Embassy came to Polnep on the next day.  Ms. Erica Sjarif and Mr. Gandhabhaskara Saputra gave the audiences comprehensive, accurate and up-to- date  information about living and studying in the United States.

The two visits were welcomed by Director’s Deputy IV, Ms. Utin Nina Hermina, S.E, M.Si and attended by some heads of departments of Polnep, the lecturers and the students.



Polnep Visited Politeknik Mukah Sarawak (PMU)

On 4- 7 September 2012, Polnep’s director together with the heads of all departments in Polnep came to visit Politeknik Mukah Sarawak with some agendas.

The first agenda was to  attend Politeknik Mukah Sarawak’s 5th  convocation.  In the ceremony which was also attended by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Yang Amat Berhormat  Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib bin Mahmud, PMUconferred certificates and diplomas on about 600 candidates who have completed their courses of study in PMU.  About another 400 students would have the same ceremony on next day.

In addition to attending the convocation, Polnep also conducted in so called comparative study, in return to PMU’s visit to Polnep, by visiting the departments in PMU to see the facilities, compare each other’s teaching programs and seek the opportunities for inter-department mutual cooperation. Some lecturers also came into some classes as guest lecturers to share knowledge and  information with PMU’s students.

On the last day of the visit, an official meeting was held between Polnep and PMU to talk about the implementation of MoU that has previously signed by the two parties. In the meeting, it was decided that the two Polytechnics agreed to do students exchange by sending 10 up to 12 students to each other. The parties also made a serious commitment to conduct joint research which will be preceded by  a colloquium to presents research paper to each other and discuss any new idea of research.


Polnep Ranked 4 at Shell Eco Marathon 2012

Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep) once again took apart in Eco Shall Marathon Asia which was held in Sepang, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. In 2012, it was held on 4-7 July2012. Polnep’s team was awarded as the 4th winner in Urban Concept Category out of 136 participants from 18 countries for its vehicle ‘Khatulistiwa Line 3′ . The vehicle was able to stretch the limit of fuel consumption up to 91 Kms/ Hour.

Polnep was one of 9 Indonesian universities which sent total 19 teams to the annual event.  Polnep sent two teams for two different categories. Khatulistiwa Line 2 was the vehicle prepared for Prototype category and Khatulistiwa Line 3 for Urban Concept.


Polnep signed MoU with Politeknik Mukah Sarawak

As its attempt to gain its vision and to internationally allow massive knowledge transfer, Politeknik Negeri Pontianak (polnep) seeks to have mutual cooperation with overseas universities and colleges. For that purpose, on 29 May 2012, Polnep and Politeknik Mukah Sarawak (PMU) agreed to enter into a cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony was held at Polnep’s rectorate building, Pontianak. It was conducted by the Director of Polnep, Mahyus, S.Pd, SE, MM along with his counterpart , Deputy Director of PMU, Abdubrani Bin Yunus.

 The MoU states the two parties’ agreement in doing academic and Research cooperation which covers Student Exchange, Academic Staff Exchange, Joint Research Program, Strategic Staff Partner Program, Joint Venture Entrepreneurship Program and Polytechnic and Higher Education Platform Sources to Indonesia. The two parties agree to ensure the  implementation of the MoU in five years starting from the date of signing.


Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep) ranked 19 in Shell-Echo Marathon 2011

Polnep students took a part in Shell-Echo Martahon 2011 in Sepang Malaysia and gained no 19 Rangking out of 95 participants. At the fuel efficiency contest, Polnep became one of five contestants from Indonesia and the only participants from Indonesian Polytechnics. The Mechanical Engineering students brought their vehicle which has aerodinamic design called Khatulistiwa Line . The vehicle which is expected to have fuel comsumption of 1500 KM/ Liter was contested in Prototype Class, the class for futuristic vehicles prototypes focusing on maximizing fuel efficiency.
